WILLEMSTAD - There is no danger of collapse for the Plaza Hotel in downtown Punda. That is according to architect Ronny Lobo. He does acknowledge that pieces of concrete could break off and fall down, which by itself poses a threat to the people.
But according to Lobo, the building has to endure a lot due to weather conditions, but the exterior is in reasonable condition. Concrete rot is mainly on the inside and not in the structural parts of the building.
The Plaza has been empty for some years now. The hotel went was auctioned several times, but the purchase did not go through three times.
There is still no clarity what will happen to this iconic building in historic downtown Punda.
