THE HAGUE - There will be no independent investigation into compliance with human rights at the Coast Guard. The Dutch Minister of Defense finds the investigation unnecessary.
According to Minister Ollongren, the employees of the Coast Guard are sufficiently trained to follow the rules according to international treaties. This is what the minister says in response to questions from the Volt faction in the Dutch House of Representatives. The party found it unclear how the Coast Guard respects human rights, especially in interceptions of Venezuelan migrants. The minister stressed that the coastguard crew respectfully treat Venezuelan migrants found at sea.
