THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The Ombudsmen of Sint Maarten, Curaçao and the Netherlands sent a joint letter in July 2020 about problems in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. This was addressed to the chairman of the Kingdom Council of Ministers, Mark Rutte. Rutte has not yet responded. This is stated in the National Ombudsman's annual report for 2020.

The letter concerns, among other things, the lack of recovery work on Sint Maarten after hurricane Irma, the Venezuelan refugee problem and poverty on the islands.

"The corona crisis makes this situation even more poignant for many," said the Ombudsman. That is why he wants to discuss this issue with the Dutch Prime Minister, together with the ombudsmen of Sint Maarten and Curaçao.
