No space for the public at the Maximus case

Local | By Correspondent January 18, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - There is no room for the public during the Maximus case that begins today. Several representatives of the media may be present.

The case will be held in the Suffisant Naval Barracks. The Maximus case will be held between January 18-29. It concerns the appeal of former Finance Minister George Jamaloodin. He was initially sentenced to 28 years in prison for various cases, including the intellectual author of the murder of leftist politician and former Member of Parliament Helmin Magno Wiels in 2013.

The limited sitting space has to do with the Covid-19 measures that also apply in the barracks.

A different location was chosen because the court does not have the capacity to reserve a room for a case for two weeks without interrupting the planning of other court cases.
