Not much money left in treasury

Local | By Correspondent September 3, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - At the end of this month, Curaçao only has 19.5 million guilders in the treasury. That is without any additional liquidity support from the Netherlands. It will be really dire from October, assuming that further financial aid is not forthcoming. There will be a liquidity shortage of more than 340 million guilders immediately.

This could increase further to a deficit of more than 560 million guilders at the end of the year. According to Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha, civil servants do not have to worry. The monthly tax revenues are sufficient to pay them.
