WILLEMSTAD - The Uniek Curaçao Foundation is sounding the alarm about nuisance in nature areas due to stray dogs. Holidaymakers experience nuisance from the stray dogs. For example, several hikers were bitten by those dogs. It is also harmful to nature. Birds feel threatened in their own environment and their nests are regularly destroyed. Moreover, dog poop does not belong in the ecosystem of, for example, the salt pans and the wooded environment.
The Uniek Curaçao Foundation makes an urgent appeal on their Facebook page to dog owners, walking services and training groups to keep dogs on a leash at all times. They also ask to clean up the dog poop and throw it away at home.
This week, Uniek Curaçao will place new signs in the nature reserves.
