Oceans Day Webinar: “World oceans day & the transition to blue economy”

WILLEMSTAD - The World Ocean Day is an international day that takes place annually on 8 June. It supports the implementation of worldwide Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fosters public interest in the protection of the ocean and the sustainable management of its resources. In view of this, on Tuesday June 8, as a collaboration between OCTA (Overseas Countries and Territories Association) and the Curaçao National Commission for UNESCO, an Oceans Day Webinar focused on Blue Economy with the theme: “World Oceans Day & the Transition to Blue Economy” will take place online.

Andrei Moarcas, the Environment and Energy Advisor of OCTA will give a preliminary presentation on The OCTA Blue Economy Study, followed by an Introduction of World Oceans Day , Secretary General Curaçao National Commission for UNESCO, Marva C. Browne and speakers from different OCTs who will briefly present their experience in the transition towards a sustainable blue economy, particularly in relation to Oceans. Topics such as Representatives from the Caribbean, Greenland, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis et Futuna will share their experience on Blue Economy Challenges and Opportunities – Opportunities for Curaçao Deep Seawater Industry by Karel Tujeehut, Coordinator of the Energy,  Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao; Sustainable Development in Greenland- Presenting two cases: Seaweed and Sea Cucumber by Nikoline Ziemer, Business Development Manager in Royal Greenland A/S and Blue Economy Challenges and Opportunities in the Pacific OCTs: A focus on New-Caledonia – Lionel Loubersac, Founder and Manager of the New Caledonia Maritime Cluster.
