Oil tanks continue without PdVSA logo

Local | By Correspondent December 5, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The name of Petróleos de Venezuela (PdVSA) officially disappears from the oil tanks of the Isla refinery. The lease contract with PdVSA was terminated three years ago.

In 1985, PdVSA received the license to operate the Curaçao refinery. From that year on, Curaçao was the owner of the oil refinery, through the government-owned company Refineria di Korsou (RdK). Although the production of PdVSA had been stopped for some time, December 30, 2019, is considered the official last day. The Venezuelan state oil company ran into financial problems at home and in other countries.

RdK has now ordered the tanks to be painted white in connection with Christmas. “The Christmas decorations are an initiative of the former Isla employees who all have a positive vibe and belief in the future of the refinery,” says RdK director Patrick Newton.

Incidentally, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas stated last weekend that the preferred candidate Caribbean Petroleum Refinery (CPR) must meet the proof of funds before the end of the year. For a long time, the government was silent on this subject, but on Saturday Pisas broke the silence during a radio interview.

The 'proof of funds' was not initially required for reaching a Heads of Agreement (HoA), but to avoid this being fulfilled only at the final lease agreement, the government has decided to do this before the HoA

In addition, CPR indicates that it wishes to have exact clarity about the applicable strict environmental requirements that will apply in the future.
