WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecution Service (OM) confirms that an agreement has been reached with Gerrit Schotte about the repayment of 1.8 million guilders. The former prime minister already reported on his Facebook page on Saturday that an agreement had been reached.
Schotte has been convicted of money laundering and official corruption. During his time as Prime Minister, he received at least 1.8 million guilders in bribes and channeled this through bank accounts abroad. Schotte had until mid-May to transfer the 1.8 million guilders to the Public Prosecution Service, otherwise he had to go to jail for another three years.
Due to the payment arrangement, the Public Prosecution Service will not proceed with the execution of the prison sentence as long as the agreement is complied with. The Public Prosecution Service makes no further announcements about the content of the agreement.
