OM: investigation into fraud tax authorities ongoing

Local | By Correspondent September 28, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecution Service (OM) is investigating the irregularities at the Tax Department. Public Prosecutor Guillano Schoop confirmed this. Finance Minister Javier Silvania expressed his doubts on his Facebook page about the criminal investigation against cashiers at the Tax Department.

Silvania points out in his post that Members of Parliament of the opposition Ana Maria Pauletta and Giselle Mc William indicated that it is unclear whether the employees concerned have been reported at all.

"Ask former-minister Kenneth Gijsbertha if he has filed a complaint at the Public Prosecution Service against the four employees of the Tax Department who committed the fraud," said Silvania. The report shows 33 refunds on tax returns that were incorrect. According to Silvania, that money ended up in accounts of friends.

The minister demands from Pauletta and Mc William to inquire with the Public Prosecution Service when they are going to prosecute the fraudsters.

Schoop confirms that a criminal complaint has been filed under the previous government. "In the meantime, people have been arrested, but also released," says the public prosecutor. "The investigation is still ongoing."
