WILLEMSTAD - Everyone has the right to clean drinking water. To realize this, the ombudsman is working on a bill proposal. The ombudsman is also working on a law that will (better) regulate the handling of complaints with the government. Both bills will be submitted to the government this year. The ombudsman reports this in the annual report for 2021.
Last year, the ombudsman received 785 complaints. The vast majority concerned the lack of response from the government to letters and applications submitted by citizens. The reports of the institute are still not taken seriously by the government. The government has so far not responded to any of the 53 reports released last year.
