WILLEMSTAD - Omni's parent company, Unicomer Curaçao, has obtained a collective pension plan for its employees in Curaçao, St. Maarten and Bonaire from pension provider ENNIA, with the assistance of Certus Insurance Brokers.
Unicomer Curaçao is growing as a local market leader in the distribution and sales of environmentally friendly and high-quality brands of household appliances and air conditioners such as Samsung, Panasonic, Midea, Mastertech and Mabe. Unicomer also specializes in the sales of furniture and home accessories, which can be found in the OMNI Furniture Gallery. Unicomer has an OMNI and a Radio Shack location in Curaçao, and Bonaire and St. Maarten each have an OMNI location. Unicomer employs a total of 119 people.
Managing Director Sonia Kemp-Manglani believes it is important that employees build up a pension to supplement their income after retirement. Providing employees with these types of secondary employment benefits are unique in the retail industry. “We are a fast-growing, ambitious company, and we are part of the Unicomer Group, which is active in Central America, the Caribbean and the USA. The company has a clearly formulated vision and mission. We don’t just want to be market leaders from a business standpoint, we also want to be leaders from a social standpoint, by taking good care of the employees who help our company grow.
By working with ENNIA, as well as with Reinier R.J. de la Fuente from Certus Insurance Brokers, we have been able to create this new pension arrangement. This pension doesn’t just provide supplementary income after retirement, but also provides surviving relatives with income in the event that an employee dies prematurely", says Kemp-Manglani. She hopes that the entire retail industry will follow Unicomer’s example.
