WILLEMSTAD - Opening schools is not wise, says children's rights activist Keith Carlo. According to him, it is not a good idea to open educational institutions on Curaçao next week.
Carlo emphasizes that it is very difficult for students to stick to social distancing when they go back to school. The government wants to open pre-school care on 4 May and other schools in the weeks thereafter.
On St. Eustatius, all schools may reopen next Monday. That's what Deputy Government Commissioner Alida Francis said. Today she is consulting with the schools to make a final decision.
The schools on the island have been closed since March 30. A decision should also be made soon on the carnival activities scheduled for the end of July. Saba has canceled carnival, St. Eustatius has not yet made a decision about this.
