Opposition: Government must step down!

Local | By Correspondent July 22, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Leader of the largest opposition party MFK Gilmar "Pik" Pisas handed a letter to Governor Lucille George-Wout on Tuesday.

The letter was signed by nine MPs. They argue that the government can no longer count on a majority and must resign. The letter was signed by members of the opposition parties MFK, Kòrsou di Nos Tur, Movementu Progresivo and Pueblo Sobernao.

Independent Member of Parliament Rennox Calmes said yesterday that he no longer supports the Rhuggenaath government. But he did not sign the letter. Calmes was supposed to explain his position in a press conference on Monday but that did not happen. He rescheduled it for Tuesday morning but canceled. It is not sure yet what his position is if he supports the government or not. Fact is that he did not sign the letter of the opposition members which does not give them majority in parliament.

PAR will now have a new Member of Parliament giving them 6 seats and together with coalition partner MAN, the government has a small majority of 11 seats.
