Opposition parties against elimination cash payment at Tax Office

Local | By Correspondent September 9, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Opposition factions PAR, MAN, KEM and TPK are surprised by the decision of Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania (MFK), to eliminate cash payments at the Tax Office as of 1 October.

The parties have therefore requested an emergency parliamentary meeting about the minister's statements about job loss within the Tax Office, due to the discontinuation of cash payments. The ombudsman emphasized in his 2019 annual report that it should be possible to pay in cash, according to the four parties.

The opposition groups argue that as long as the government cannot guarantee that all citizens and businesses can open a bank account, the government cannot demand debit card payments or bank transfers.
