WILLEMSTAD - More than 4000 people have registered with SOAW for food aid. The Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare said this in a press conference today. That is a lot less registrations than the Red Cross had before. There were 6,000 people registered for e-tickets and food parcels.
SOAW started taking over food aid from the Red Cross at the beginning of this month. Of the more than 4000 registrations, almost 1500 have now been approved. Some 1,500 applications are still being processed and just over 200 applications have been declared incomplete. More than 1,200 applications have also been rejected.
Most of the rejected applications were because these people turned out to be ineligible for food aid. The aid is only given to people with a lower income than 650 guilders per month or who have to live on welfare. Since yesterday it is no longer possible to register in the neighborhoods. Anyone who has not yet registered can still do so via the SOAW website or by telephone.
