WILLEMSTAD - Recently, the Coast Guard Rescue and Coordination Center (RCC) received a report via the emergency number 913 from a concerned citizen who saw a seadoo drifting off the coast near the Karakter beach. The RCC immediately alerted the Coast Guard units. A Metal Shark and the AW 139 helicopter were deployed directly to the location.

Upon arrival of the units at the site, the seadoo and the crew sailed towards the beach at high speed. Due to the suspicious behavior of the persons on the water scooter, the coast guard units proceeded to check the vessel and the persons on board. During the inspection, it appeared that the navigation documents of the vessel were not in order. The watercraft was confiscated. The persons have also received a fine for non-compliance with the corona measures in Curaçao by being at sea.
The current corona measures and the "lockdown" also apply to sea activities. Only fishermen who are registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (LVV) and have a certificate of exemption with them can go to sea. All other vessels and boats that are at sea are at risk of a fine.
