WILLEMSTAD — A festive Curaçaoan New Year’s celebration would not be complete without sparkling drinks, traditional oliebollen, a shared countdown, and, of course, the thunderous sound of pagara firecrackers. As in previous years, smoke and loud explosions will fill the streets of Willemstad on the final afternoon and evening of the year.

Below is an overview of several locations where pagara firecrackers are scheduled to be set off during the year-end celebrations.
In Nieuwstraat, Pietermaai, the pagara will be ignited at 2:00 p.m. The event will be followed by a street party featuring live music, outdoor bars, and street food.
At Oasis Shopping Mall on Kaya Grote Berg, the pagara is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
At Joey’s Smokehouse in Mahaai, the pagara will be set off at 8:00 p.m. Visitors are welcome from 4:00 p.m. for cold drinks, a barbecue, and music by a DJ.
A major highlight of the festivities is the large fireworks show at Kooyman in Zeelandia. This display will take place on December 30 at 9:00 p.m.
The overview is not expected to be complete. Residents who are aware of additional locations where pagara firecrackers will be ignited are encouraged to share the information with the editorial team.
As the year draws to a close, the community is reminded to celebrate responsibly and safely during the festivities.
