THE HAGUE - It is not possible to officially recognize Papiamento as a full language in the Kingdom. This is according to the Dutch Minister of the Interior Kajsa Ollongren.
The European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages is not valid for overseas territories. The minister says she is willing to make an effort to protect and promote Papiamento as a language.
Discussions about this are already underway with the special municipality of Bonaire and with relevant language organizations.
