WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao parliament this week approved the government's proposal to introduce measures from 1 September.
The measures must generate more money for the government. This involves increasing the excise duty on cigarettes, beer, wine and spirits. The waste tax is also increased. According to Minister of Finance Gijsbertha there is a lot of criticism of the measures. But he says he has not heard of anyone an alternative that can be introduced in the short term.
