THE HAGUE - What are the consequences of a possible bankruptcy of Winair? That is what Dutch MPs Aukje de Vries and Rudmer Heerema, both VVD, want to hear from Minister Van Niewenhuizen and Undersecretary Knops.
This week, the Sint Maarten airline announced that again it needed financial support to keep its head above water after the loan of 3 million dollars received from the Netherlands. More than 90% of the shares of Winair are in the hands of the Sint Maarten government, the Dutch state is co-owner for about 8%.
Other airlines in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom are skeptical of the state aid that the competitor receives to maintain routes that they can also operate, but without government assistance.
