ORANJESTAD - The party MEP of outgoing Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes has won the elections in Aruba. The MEP retains 9 seats in the 21-seat parliament. The opposition party AVP of former Prime Minister Mike Eman won 7 and lost 2 seats.
A collaboration between the MEP and AVP is out of the question, both parties have already announced.
This year a record number of twelve parties took part in the elections in Aruba. Three newcomers managed to win seats: the social democratic party RAIZ (Roots) got 2 seats, the Aruban Sovereignty Movement (MAS) also won 2 and a seat went to the progressive Accion21. All three want to “end traditional politics”.
