Pharmacists angry with importers

Local | By Correspondent October 2, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The Association of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Owners is angry about a measure taken by importers of branded medicines.

At the end of the month, the importers established a new credit line. This means that pharmacies must pay immediately when they buy medicines or are given two weeks at the latest to pay.

Previously, pharmacists could still pay for medicines two months after delivery. With the new measure, the importers put a knife to the throat of pharmacists, says the Association of Pharmacists.

The pharmacists do not receive their money until two months after sale after the medicine was sold to customers from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). As a result of the new policy, pharmacists will not have enough money, according to the association.

And because they cannot pay in advance, the drug supply is seriously endangered. According to the pharmacists, this can have life-threatening consequences.
