Pietersz-Janga must again decide on CMC budget order

Local | By Correspondent May 11, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The judge in Curaçao has ruled that the Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Dorothy Pietersz-Janga must again decide on the budget order of the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).

The CMC receives an annual budget from the minister. The budget is intended to cover the costs incurred by the CMC when providing care to patients covered by basic health insurance (BVZ). The CMC believes that the budgets for 2022 and 2021 are too low.

If the budget is not increased, the continuity of care is at stake, according to the CMC. The CMC has responded several times to the advice about the budget, but Pietersz-Janga has never responded.

The judge has decided that the minister must respond within three months and decide again on the budget. In addition, the judge ruled that the minister should not have implemented the budget cut of 12.5 percent on the employment conditions of the CMC staff.
