PNP MP calls for investigation into corruption within the public works department

Local | By Correspondent October 20, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Sheldry Osepa, a Member of Parliament representing the PNP, has raised concerns about corruption within the Public Works department. Osepa has received information indicating that public officials are engaging in corrupt practices by soliciting kickbacks in exchange for awarding contracts to contractors. Shockingly, some of these individuals have consistently demanded amounts exceeding 10,000 guilders.

In response to these alarming allegations, Osepa has submitted a letter to Minister Cooper, proposing that the State Audit Office (SOAB) and, if necessary, the National Detective Agency (Landsrecherche) conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the extent of this corruption. He further emphasizes the need for legal action to be taken against the public servants found complicit in such activities.

It is essential to highlight that the Landsrecherche initiated a search at the Public Works department and the residences of its employees in August, prompted by allegations of bribery. Osepa's call for an investigation aims to address and eradicate corruption within this critical government department.
