Police Curaçao to implement zero tolerance policy

Local | By Correspondent April 5, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The police in Curaçao is implementing a "zero tolerance" policy in order to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus as much as possible. Police warned recently that there will be a stricter response to people who violate applicable corona measures.

That means more police fines, more roadblocks to check traffic, and motorists who are not allowed to be on the street will have their cars towed away.

Curaçao has been in lockdown since March 24, a curfew has been in force for a long time and gatherings have been prohibited for a long time. At the same time, there has been a significant increase in the number of corona infections. According to the police, there are still too many people who break the rules, including by attending illegal parties and taking to the road for unnecessary things. This will be tackled harder.

On Curaçao people are allowed to take to the streets twice a week based on their number plate. The police have asked the Dutch Defense for assistance in carrying out traffic checks.
