Local | By Correspondent January 15, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The police stopped the activities of the political party KUMUN yesterday. The party has bought an asphalt truck to fix potholes. First, holes were fixed in Dominguito. Yesterday they wanted to work in Banda'Bou, but that was stopped by the police. According to Poekie Alberto of the party KUMUN, the police have made it clear that the activities of the party are illegal. The asphalt truck has been impounded.

The Curaçao Council of Ministers has recently approved an emergency plan to ensure that the condition of Curaçao's roads does not deteriorate further. The intention is that this week an accelerated recovery of the roads will start, which will include filling holes. According to the government, a lack of funds and the many rain showers in recent times have made the maintenance of the Curaçao roads difficult.

The government further says that dissatisfaction and annoyance from the public about the condition of the Curaçao roads have led to some groups taking matters into their own hands and starting to fill the potholes. According to the government, these own initiatives seem very noble, but in fact these actions are illegal. Road repairs can only take place with permission and a permit from the Ministry of Transport, Transport and Spatial Planning.
