Police Warn of Rising Scooter Thefts in Curaçao, Urge Owners to Take Precautions

Local | By Correspondent November 13, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Police Force has reported a notable increase in scooter thefts toward the end of the year, particularly involving AKT-brand scooters. The specialized vehicle theft unit warns scooter owners to remain vigilant and take preventive measures.

According to police, thieves are targeting scooters left in poorly lit or unsupervised areas. Owners are urged to park their scooters in well-lit places or in locations with social visibility, especially during evening hours.

“If you don’t have a garage, place your scooter close to your house wall or under a bedroom window,” the police advise.

Authorities also recommend the following safety measures:

– Use a heavy-duty chain lock to prevent the scooter from being moved or carried away.
– Install a GPS tracker to help locate the vehicle in case it is stolen.

Police stress that vigilance and simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of theft, especially during the busy holiday season when incidents tend to rise.
