WILLEMSTAD – On Friday, January 2, 2026, former Governor Lucille George-Wout unveiled her official portrait at the Governor’s Palace in Willemstad.

The unveiling follows a long-standing tradition dating back to the 1960s, when the first Governor from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, Colá Debrot, stepped down. Since then, companies and institutions from the business community have commissioned a portrait painting as a token of appreciation for an outgoing Governor. These portraits are displayed in the portrait gallery at the entrance of the Palace.
During the ceremony, the Acting Governor, Ruthsella Jansen, delivered a brief address in which she thanked George-Wout for her exceptional achievements, dedication, and deep commitment to Curaçao and its people over the past twelve years. She also expressed her appreciation to the business community for its contribution and for continuing this meaningful tradition.
At an earlier gathering in November, a large group of representatives from the business sector had already paid more extensive tribute to the former Governor’s service and formally marked the donation of the artwork.
