WILLEMSTAD - According to Premier Eugene Rhuggenaath, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Education, the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on Curaçao’s public finances is known to be enormous. The current situation requires an evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of the policy from each ministry.
“It is not simply" budget cuts in education", but more cuts in structures that are no longer in favor of the education process. Both within the ministry and in the subsidy structures and relationships with various agencies, says the minister.
“This will mean a different way of working. And we count on the cooperation of everyone involved to take a new direction together. It's not business as usual!”
According to Rhugegnaath, the community needs to come closer together with creative solutions for the goal they want to achieve, “quality education for our children”.
“We have developed a strategic education agenda around the vision and concrete objectives for an innovative education system, in which global citizens are prepared to become developed citizens who are ready for a changing society. That is what we aim for, said Premier Ruggenaath.”
