WILLEMSTAD - During his first official visit to Curaçao, the President of the Republic of Suriname, His Excellency Chandrikapersad Santokhi, laid a wreath today at the statue of Surinamese labor leader and social activist Louis Alfred Gerardus Doedel. The ceremony took place at the national monument in Kolebra Bèrdè, with Doedel's descendants in attendance.

By laying this wreath, President Santokhi honors the contributions of Louis Doedel to the fight for social justice in both Curaçao and Suriname. Born on July 26, 1905, in Paramaribo, Doedel was a key advocate for workers' rights and played a crucial role in the labor movement in both countries.
This ceremony took place shortly after the president's arrival in Curaçao, marking the beginning of the formal agenda of his historic visit to the island.
