Prime Minister Wever-Croes: "My relatives are not involved in a drug cartel"

Local | By Correspondent October 26, 2021

ORANJESTAD - Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes (MEP) denies that her relatives are involved in a drug cartel. The prime minister herself refuted the rumors on Monday morning.

A message is said to have been spread via WhatsApp stating that the prime minister's immediate family has been arrested for allegedly running a drug cartel. Croes would have ensured that her cousin got a favorable job at the Refineria di Aruba.

According to the prime minister, the rumors are not true. “Me and my family have no affiliation with any drug cartel or any other cartel. I have always stated and maintained that everyone is responsible for their own lives," said Wever-Croes. She indicates that her family may not always have shown exemplary behavior, but that everyone is responsible for his or her behavior.

Croes emphasizes that if her family members are arrested, this is proof that the system works in Aruba and that the government offers the Public Prosecution Service (OM) every opportunity to operate independently.
