Prison: “Schotte not on hunger strike”

Local | By Correspondent July 3, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - Former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte is not on a hunger strike. SDKK prison warden Urny Floran confirms that Schotte did not eat yesterday, but calls this a food strike.

According to Floran, that is different, since a hunger strike is intended to achieve a certain goal and Schotte is only angry. Angry at himself, at the whole situation, at his prison and he finds the food bad.

According to Floran, Schotte eats selectively and that is not part of a hunger strike. Former Girobank director Eric Garcia is also on a hunger strike since he does not get the diet he needs.

Floran says he has been in contact with Schotte, but denies that he is on a hunger strike.
