WILLEMSTAD - ProMo chairman Dennis Klaus does not understand the anger of Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP). The minister responded with a furious Facebook message after Fundashon Pro Momumento (ProMo) filed an appeal with the Court of First Instance over the construction plans of the Majestic Hotel & Residence in Punda.
Klaus emphasizes that the foundation is not against building at Marichi. “But the project for which a building permit has now been issued is disproportionate and does not comply with the Island Development Plan. Curaçao must be careful with large-scale construction projects,” says Klaus. “It is not inconceivable that UNESCO decides to remove Willemstad from the World Heritage List.”
The minister reacted furiously to ProMo's statements. “While the cabinet is speeding up building permits to give the economy a jumpstart, a few figures who have nothing to do are opposing the projects,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page.
"Perhaps the minister conveniently forgets that the 'employment' he is talking about will be at risk if UNESCO throws us off the list," Klaus said. “I wonder why he is so concerned. If he thinks he will be right in court, then he has nothing to worry about, right?”
