Prosecutor Demands 48-Month Prison Sentence for Man Accused of Raping Stepdaughter

Local | By Correspondent December 1, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) has requested a 48-month prison sentence for E.G. (54), who is accused of raping his underage stepdaughter between April 21 and May 2, 2025.

During the court hearing, the prosecutor sharply criticized the defendant’s conduct throughout the investigation.

“The suspect denied the allegations for two months — to the police and to the examining judge,” the prosecutor said.

Defendant Minimizes Abuse and Blames Victim

E.G. allegedly attempted to downplay the severity of the assault, claiming it happened “only once.” He also accused the victim’s mother of being “crazy” and insisted that “everyone is lying.”

Each time he denied the girl’s account, police were forced to re-interview the minor, causing her to relive the traumatic events repeatedly.

Concerns About Victim’s Safety

The prosecutor expressed serious concern about the girl’s safety if the suspect is released. The child’s mother reportedly told authorities she intends to allow E.G. back into the home upon his release, citing financial dependency.

“This worries me deeply, especially considering what the suspect has done to his own stepchild,” the prosecutor stated.

The OM is therefore requesting that the civil court intervene to remove the girl from what they describe as a dangerous home environment.

Fully Accountable for His Actions

Reports from both the Probation Service and a clinical psychologist concluded that E.G. is fully responsible for his actions. The prosecutor noted positively that the defendant has since asked for help, though it does not mitigate the severity of the crime.

Sentence and Conditions Requested

The OM is seeking:

48 months in prison, of which 12 months suspended, minus time already served

Mandatory supervision by the Probation Service

A strict no-contact order with the victim

A prohibition on entering the family home as long as the child resides there

Judgment Expected December 19

The court will deliver its verdict on December 19.

This case has sparked renewed concern about child protection on Curaçao, as authorities emphasize the importance of ensuring that victims are not returned to unsafe environments.
