WILLEMSTAD – In addition to the recently announced increase of the AOV pension to ƒ1,000 per month, Curaçao’s public servants will also receive a one-time payment of ƒ1,000 in January, the government has confirmed.

The announcement was made by Minister of Governance, Planning and Public Services Kimberly Lew-Jen-Tai (MFK) in a video message shared on Facebook, in which she thanked civil servants for their work and dedication throughout the year.

Appreciation for Public Service

According to the minister, the payment—referred to as the “bashi premium”—is intended as a gesture of appreciation for the support and services that public servants have provided over the course of the year.

“The bashi premium is meant as recognition for the commitment and service shown by civil servants throughout the year,” Lew-Jen-Tai said.

Boost to Morale

The minister expressed hope that the bonus will help boost morale and motivate public servants to continue performing their duties with dedication and professionalism in service of the people of Curaçao.

The announcement comes at a time when the government has been emphasizing measures aimed at supporting incomes and strengthening public sector motivation, particularly in the context of broader social and economic policies for 2026.
