Quincy Promes ordered to pay compensation for stabbing incident

Local | By Correspondent February 6, 2024

AMSTERDAM - Quincy Promes has been ordered by the Amsterdam Court of Appeals to pay compensation to his nephew for a stabbing incident that occurred in 2020. The court ruled on Tuesday that the 32-year-old footballer is liable for the damages in a civil case.

In a similar civil case earlier, the Amsterdam District Court had ruled that Promes owed his nephew compensation, with the amount yet to be determined. Promes appealed this verdict, but he lost the case.

The nephew accuses Promes of stabbing him in the knee during a dispute at a family party in Abcoude in July 2020. Promes faced criminal prosecution for this and was sentenced to eighteen months in prison. The professional footballer has also appealed this verdict.

Promes is also involved in a second criminal case. In January, the Public Prosecution Service demanded a nine-year prison sentence against him for large-scale cocaine smuggling. The court is expected to rule on this case on February 14.

The former Ajax player did not appear in any of the court proceedings. Promes is currently playing for Spartak Moscow and is not residing in the Netherlands.
