Rapid ID card renewal possible for voting

Local | By Correspondent January 27, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Because it is impossible to vote without a valid identification document, Kranshi offers the possibility to obtain an identity card at short notice. This in order to still be able to cast a vote in the elections on March 19. The Electoral Council reports this in a press release.

The possibility of getting an identity card more quickly arose after Kranshi discovered that there are many people on Curaçao who do not have any form of identification.

People do not have a valid passport, no sèdula (ID) or driver's license. In some cases because they never had them created and in other cases the documents have expired and never renewed.

Especially for people who do not have a valid identity document, there is now a possibility to make an appointment at the Permits Desk to have a valid identity document made.

For an appointment you can call 434-1690. An appointment can also be made by sending an email to: sita@gobiernu.cw. It is also possible to personally visit the Permits Desk and make an appointment.

The Electoral Council also says that sedulas and driver's licenses that expire after July 20, 2020, have an extension of seven months. So these documents are valid for seven months longer.
