WILLEMSTAD - Raymond Ellis is the new chief of police in Curaçao. He had held that position on an interim basis for five years. For the last two years, he has done so without a boss, because the chief of police Mauricio Sambo left in 2020.

The appointment was reported in September by Curaçao Chronicle, which received the news from the Council of Ministers. Elbert Sambo, 49, succeeds Ellis as interim head of the Curaçao police and head of operations. He was also installed yesterday.
Ellis has a long career in the Curaçao police force, where he started in 1986. He was head of various departments, including the Criminal Investigation Department.
Elbert Sambo has been with the force since 1993 but left that same year for the police academy in Apeldoorn. In 1998 he returned but was employed by the Landsrecherche. In 2020 he returned to the Corps in the police top.
