Really no salary increases for ministers

Local | By Correspondent August 20, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - There is really no question of a salary increase for ministers and parliamentarians in the highest civil service scale. The government emphasizes that in response to the unrest that arose last night. Several unions said at a press conference that ministers' salaries are rising because apparently, they should earn more than a secretary-general because of their political responsibilities.

According to Minister Armin Konket, a mistake was made in the calculation to cut 25 percent. Officials found the error and it should be corrected. Because of the mistake, ministers now even sacrifice more to correct the difference.

The calculation by the Ministry of Administration, Planning and Services, which is in the hands of the media, shows that both in scale 17 and in scale 18, a net salary of 8882 guilders remains.

The pension will not be increased either. The trade unions, but also the opposition party MFK, do not agree with this answer and demand further explanation.

The minister regrets the incorrect information on the street and hopes that the unions will accept his explanation.
