WILLEMSTAD - The Court has received a request for prosecution from the relatives of Meritza Gerard. The woman was murdered in her house on January 4, 2015.
The main suspect is her husband. He has not been arrested to date and there is a suspicion that he has fled to the Netherlands.
The Public Prosecution Service and the Attorney General have indicated that they will not prosecute. The reasons for this are that the man cannot legally be prosecuted or arrested because he is "missing".
The family now asks their lawyer to declare the complaint that they have filed well founded and to order the OM to prosecute the man. The judge will rule in three weeks.
