WILLEMSTAD — The Curaçao music community is mourning the loss of Tico Marlin, one of the island’s most well-known DJs, who passed away this week at the age of 50. Friends and family confirmed his death on social media.
According to those close to him, Marlin was found in his home after he failed to show up for work. The cause of death has not yet been made public.

Tico Marlin was a prominent figure in Curaçao’s nightlife scene and was repeatedly named the island’s best DJ between 2005 and 2010. He was widely known for his energetic and versatile style, seamlessly combining DJ performances with live MC work to energize crowds.
On Curaçao, Marlin performed at several popular venues, including Tutu Tango behind The Movies and Club Cinco in Parera. His career also took him abroad, where he spent many years performing at The Cooldown Café in Amsterdam and later at a large nightclub in Barcelona.
In recent years, Marlin lived and worked on Bonaire, where he continued to DJ. He returned to Curaçao last year and took on a new role as a food and beverage manager at the Marriott hotel, while remaining connected to the music scene.
His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow DJs, artists and fans, many of whom describe him as an influential figure who helped shape modern nightlife on the island.
