Request MAN for public debate

Local | By Correspondent March 25, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - The MAN faction in the parliament has submitted a request to the President of the Parliament for an emergency meeting with the Minister of Justice to discuss the undocumented Venezuelans coming into Curaçao.

The faction stated that it had taken note of the fact that the Minister of Justice had made the decision not to detain undocumented Venezuelans entering the country, but to register them and admit them to the community.

"We have also taken note of the commotion and unrest that this ministerial decision has caused within the Curaçao community," the group said, wishing to emphasize understanding that the situation is difficult for Venezuelans in their own country, but that Curaçao also is struggling with economic, social and financial challenges. "It deserves all the attention of the government," said the blue party group.

In addition to the Minister of Justice, Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath and Minister Hensley Koeiman of Social Development, Labor and Welfare, as well as Chief of Police of the Curaçao Police Force Mauricio Sambo are also called to attend the public meeting.
