Research into parental burden regarding school-age children has started

Local | By Correspondent June 10, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - According to the University of Curaçao (UoC), for some time now, there have been strong signals that parents/carers with school-age children experience a lot of pressure, tension, frustration and uncertainty when it comes to supporting their children with homework, school assignments and/or school-related activities. It seems that the parental burden has increased even more in recent years due to partial home education and the corona measures that have been applied in recent years. However, no figures are available on the extent to which parents are burdened with supporting their school-age children, what impact this has on their families, their private planning and possible implications for their children's school results, the UoC says in a press release.

Furthermore, this research is about possible pressure that parents experience regadrding the support for their school-age children. The quantitative research is an initiative of the UoC together with the Foundation Fair Educational Chance (FFEC) and the University of Groningen (RUG) from the Netherlands. The research is coordinated by Dr. Odette van Brummen-Girigori, affiliated with the University of Curaçao Research Institute (UCRI) and chair of the Foundation Fair Educational Chance (FFEC) in close collaboration with Dr. Pieternel Dijkstra and Dr. Dick Barelds.
