Residents near Dam Pretu continue to complain about ongoing smoke and odor issues

Local | By Correspondent July 26, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Residents in the Dam Pretu area are continuing to voice complaints about persistent smoke and odor issues. According to parliamentarian Elvin Gerard of the PNP party, there has been little progress despite visits from several ministers and parliamentarians to the area two months ago.

Local residents have reportedly been closing their windows and doors due to the smoke nuisance. “After the earlier attention given to the fire two months ago, it seemed the problem was easing, but recently it has worsened again,” Gerard stated.

Gerard has been advocating for a solution for the past ten years. He is urging the government to clean up the area and to put an end to illegal dumping. The parliamentarian suggests implementing oversight and developing an affordable waste management system in collaboration with Selikor.
