Rhuggenaath: More easing soon

Local | By Correspondent May 28, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The caretaker cabinet expects to be able to relax more corona measures in the short term. This also includes curfews and the cultural sector. This was announced by the outgoing Prime Minister Rhuggenaath yesterday in Parliament.

In the parliamentary debate, the Prime Minister explained the restrictive measures taken by the cabinet in the past year and answered a series of critical questions from Members of Parliament.

But the prime minister also looked ahead. “It is important that activities can continue,” he said. And given the encouraging figures from the past few days, that room seems to be there too.

Rhuggenaath expects that more activities in the cultural sector will soon be possible, such as music and theater performances. To this end, the cabinet is introducing pilot projects.

The curfew may be lifted, Rhuggenaath thinks. Or at least the curfew may start later; for example not until 1 a.m. at night.

The prime minister also said that within the cabinet the possibilities of free travel from Bonaire and Aruba to Curaçao are being discussed for people who have been fully vaccinated. Yesterday it was announced that Bonaire will allow this from 1 June.

Next Monday, the government expects to be able to hold a press conference about the adjusted measures.
