Ride for the Roses postponed

Local | By Correspondent December 23, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The Ride for the Roses will not take place at the beginning of the coming year. The board of the Ride for the Roses Curaçao foundation (RFTRC) says it cannot escape postponing the intended activities for the first quarter of 2021 to a later date.

"As with so many other events, Covid-19 is also throwing a spanner in the works. Plans are now being worked out for a virtual form that will most likely take place in the second quarter of 2021," the foundation said.

The purpose of the Ride for the RFTRC is and remains to raise funds that are used for the fight against cancer in Curaçao.

In view of government measures to mitigate the risk of spreading Corona virus, the RFTRC board has decided to postpone the traditional planned sports activities for early 2021. RFTRC does not want to unnecessarily expose participants, volunteers or own people to the risk of infection.

According to the foundation, cancer patients also desperately need the support during Covid-19. The partner from the very beginning, who takes care of this work, is the Princess Wilhelmina Fund Foundation (PWF). RFTRC indicates that later that year there may be an opportunity to take other than usual actions that raise funds for the same important charity.

For example, in discussions with experts, options will be worked out for introducing virtual and 'covid19-safe' activities in the second quarter of 2021, which will appeal to all age groups and which will also contribute to fundraising for 2021.
