Rijksmuseum for the first time exhibition on slavery

Local | By Correspondent October 21, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - For the first time, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam will present an exhibition on slavery. The initiator is the Curaçaoan Valika Smeulders.

She's head of history there. The Rijksmuseum's collection of art and objects were collected by people who were wealthy and made money in a colonial setting. The downside of this, slavery, is hardly discussed.

The slavery exhibit has been postponed due to corona and will only be on display from February 12 to May 30 next year.
