ORANJESTAD - Only one case of infection with the British variant of the coronavirus in Aruba has been detected so far.
The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports this in a weekly update of the figures in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. It is a local case without travel history.
Last week, 5 infections with the British variant were reported, but due to a technical problem in the laboratory, 4 of these cases turned out not to be attributable to a patient in Aruba.
The results of the week 4 samples are not yet known. The RIVM thinks that local transmission of this variant is likely in Aruba.
