RIVM: two new Gamma variants found on Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent June 24, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Two new cases of the Gamma variant of the coronavirus have been found in Curaçao. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports this based on the latest samples received from the island.

Gamma is the new name for the Brazilian variant. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently decided to omit the country of origin when designating variants.

The RIVM warns against a strong rise of the Delta variant from India. It appears more and more often in the Netherlands.
